We are seeking an In-Country Coordinator based in The Gambia to support the implementation of the African Poultry Multiplication Initiative (APMI). This role will involve working closely with local partners, monitoring program progress, and facilitating coordination among stakeholders to ensure the successful rollout of APMI activities. The ideal candidate will play a key role in bridging communication gaps, providing operational support to the WPF wider team, and ensuring effective data collection and reporting.

Location: Remote position.
Consultancy Duration:  1 year, with potential for renewal
Anticipated Start: May 2025

About the World Poultry Foundation
The WPF is a U.S. based non-profit organization that creates access to poultry inputs for rural households with a focus on women and youth. We work through private companies to develop small poultry enterprises that generate income and provide protein for rural households. We also build capacity through educational programs and training workshops for farmers across the globe with an emphasis on technical training, nutrition, and gender programs for women. Our mission is to be a catalyst for improving lives globally through the sustainable production of poultry while empowering farmers in developing regions.

Responsibilities

  1. Facilitating Coordination and Communication
  • Serve as the primary liaison between WPF, implementing partners, and local stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely and clear communication across teams, escalating urgent issues as necessary.
  • Support in-country partner teams with regular check-ins and coordination to enhance program effectiveness.
  1. Monitoring and Reporting
  • Ensure in coordinator with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team, that activities align with APMI program objectives.
  • Assist the WPF MEL team in data collection and reporting to track program progress and address challenges.
  • Conduct periodic reporting to the WPF team and participate in regular calls to update on developments.
  • Oversee coordination of pulse-, endline-, and longitudinal surveys, ensuring smooth execution and stakeholder buy-in.
  • Support ongoing data collection through CommCare, troubleshooting field challenges and addressing user questions in coordination with MEL team.
  • Identify gaps in CommCare and Power BI training and provide targeted support to improve data quality.
  • Assist in obtaining support letters from partner organizations for surveys and program activities.
  1. Operational and Logistical Support
  • Assist with planning and execution of field activities, including training sessions and stakeholder meetings.
  • Flag operational challenges, such as logistical delays and resource shortages, in collaboration with country teams.
  • Follow up with the partners if (production) actions are being implemented.
  • Conduct targeted spot checks and visits to Business Units (BU) and Smallholder Support Partners (SSP) to assess poultry care knowledge and improve program understanding.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement
  • Strengthen relationships with local governments, private sector actors, and relevant organizations to enhance project impact.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and long-term program sustainability.
  1. Supporting Field Service Representatives (FSRs) and Training Initiatives
  • Provide real-time updates on FSR activities in the field to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Ensure FSRs receive and understand bi-monthly reports, helping them track progress effectively.
  1. Providing Administrative and Compliance Support
  • Verify reception of assets and serial numbers on new acquisitions to ensure accurate tracking, in coordination with WPF Finance team.
  • Call businesses and request quotes occasionally to compare unusual activity if needed, in coordination with WPF Finance team. 
  1. Communication and Media Support
  • Gather and document success stories, images, and videos for WPF communication purposes.
  • Act as a liaison for in-country photo/video gathering for marketing and documentation needs.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English and other locally relevant languages.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with data collection tools (CommCare, Power BI) and ability to provide technical support.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in project coordination, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Ability to travel within the country as needed for field visits and stakeholder meetings.
  • Completed a university degree 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in agriculture, development studies, project management, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in poultry production, agricultural development, or international NGO work is an advantage.
