“Be ready for anything” An August visit to Tanzania

“Be ready for anything” An August visit to Tanzania

In our latest trip to Tanzania, the World Poultry Foundation CFO, Gordon Gossett, went with me to get a first-hand view of the African Poultry Multiplication Initiative project and to meet with all of our partners.

During this trip, we visited many rural farmers around Iringa, Njombe, and Dar es Salaam to see the impact that this project is having in people’s lives. We heard reports of increasing income from selling eggs and meat, increased consumption of eggs and meat (particularly with the children), and how this project is empowering the women smallholder farmers.

Needless to say, all of these trips involve intrigue. From traveling to farmers where there were literally no roads to flat tires in remote villages. In fact, on one of the visits (I have included a picture), one of the agents made a remark that we were not on a road but in a dry riverbed…we have to be ready for anything, traveling in these rural villages is always an adventure!
