In 2020, the World Poultry Foundation partnered with Hamara to bring over 2.5 million day old chicks to Zimbabwe by 2022.

 

Addressing Rural Poultry Production Challenges in Zimbabwe

The Poultry Multiplication Initiative (PMI) in Zimbabwe, a partnership with Hamara funded by the Gates Foundation, ran from 2020 to 2022 This program, and the WPF’s support, was specifically focused on enhancing field efforts and branding to support Hamara as they built their dual-purpose value chains across rural Zimbabwe. PMI’s efforts specifically addressed key challenges in the poultry sector, improving supply chains and empowering smallholder farmers.

2020-2022

From 2020 – 2022, PMI’s efforts in Zimbabwe were instrumental in building the Dual-Purpose Poultry (DPP) supply chain and enhancing field operations. With guidance and support from the World Poultry Foundation (WPF), the program emphasized targeted interventions to tackle unique challenges, boost branding and marketing, and establish sustainable poultry practices across Zimbabwe.

Lasting Impact

From 2020 to 2022, APMI Zimbabwe hatched nearly 2.5 million day-old chicks, established 2,500+ Brooder Units, and supported 68,000 smallholder farmers.

Over the next decade, the program is projected to benefit 17.5 million chicks, 17,000 Brooder Units, and 475,000 farmers.
