Global solutions through technology

Feed quality and access can be a challenge for farmers and producers in developing countries. Many producers blend their own feed from locally available feedstuffs for their livestock.

This presents a problem, not only in formulation accuracy for the nutritional needs for their locally produced poultry, but also in the use of optimal ingredients for poultry diets. Recognizing this challenge, the World Poultry Foundation is funding a revamp of its popular FeedMixer App.

The work is in partnership with the University of Georgia. The new version of the FeedMixer App will be available at no cost from the Google Play and iOS App Stores, will allow the farmer to simply tick boxes of available feedstuffs (maize, cassava, etc.) and the type of birds being grown, and it will calculate a basic diet. We are also planning new features to allow users to input ingredient prices as well as translate the app into French and Spanish.

Since the initial launch of the App, farmers from around the world have requested additional feed ingredients to be added to the list. With this revamp, we hope to extend our reach and help farmers mix healthy feeds for their flocks.

The newest version is planned for release in early 2023.
