About the World Poultry Foundation
The WPF is a U.S. based non-profit organization that creates access to poultry inputs for rural households with a focus on women and youth. We work through private companies to develop small poultry enterprises that generate income and provide protein for rural households. We also build capacity through educational programs and training workshops for farmers across the globe with an emphasis on technical training, nutrition, and gender programs for women. Our mission is to be a catalyst for improving lives globally through the sustainable production of poultry while empowering farmers in developing regions.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Development Manager  with a strong background in sales and marketing to drive revenue growth and expand the distribution of poultry into rural communities  across our target countries in Africa, which currently include The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Madagascar. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with our local partners to develop and implement effective sales and marketing strategies, with a focus on dual-purpose day-old chicks, teen birds and feed. You will play a key role in driving the recruitment and retention strategies of small scale poultry enterprises  together with our local partners. You will also develop tailored sales presentations and marketing campaigns that resonate with rural markets.

The role requires a deep understanding of the rural African context, creativity in designing campaigns, and strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders across different levels—from field staff to senior management. You will work with the WPF Training coordinator to design sales training for partner field staff, coach and mentor field staff on sales and marketing principles, oversee the creation of marketing assets (e.g., brochures, radio jingles, social media content), and support data analysis to continuously improve sales and marketing performance.

The role also involves components of business and financial consulting support to our partners.

Responsibilities

  • Drive revenue growth and the recruitment of small scale poultry enterprises in targeted African countries.
  • Support partners in developing sales and marketing strategies for poultry products (dual-purpose chicks, feed, teen birds).
  • Assist in the development of sales presentations and marketing materials to attract new brooder units.
  • Oversee the creation of marketing campaigns (brochures, flyers, radio, TV, social media) for dual-purpose poultry.
  • Analyze sales and marketing data to inform decision-making and improve practices.
  • Coach and mentor partner field staff in sales techniques and marketing strategies.
  • Conduct market research and monitor competitive trends within the poultry industry.
  • Provide ongoing sales training in collaboration with the training coordinator, based on field visits and real-time feedback.
  • Stay informed about sales and marketing developments, particularly in the context of rural African markets.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English and French.
  • 5+ years of experience in sales and marketing, including experience in team training and campaign development.
  • Strong understanding of the poultry value chain (preferred).
  • Proven ability to design and implement marketing campaigns and sales strategies.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% of the time, including rural areas.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in Africa
  • A university degree in a relevant field.
  • Passionate about positively impacting small-scale farmers in rural Africa.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, from rural farmers to field staff and senior executives.
  • Tech-savvy, with a good grasp of AI, social media, and sales software.
