As part of a market awareness initiative to demonstrate the value of the dual-purpose bird’s egg laying capacity, women’s groups from various villages in the Iringa, Tanzania area were brought together for presentations and talks regarding the African Poultry Multiplication Initiative.
To increase awareness of the laying potential of the females, Silverlands grew some Sasso females to point of lay and then organized to distribute them to women’s groups around Iringa. By doing this, the females will quickly start laying and demonstrate the egg potential of these birds.
Silverlands publicized the event and invited the women’s groups to come and let us share the APMI project before distributing the females. Local government officials participated and gave their support to us. Secondly, over 700 women showed up to the event!!
We were late starting, and these women and their kids sat in the hot sun for two hours. In the end, the women were singing and dancing as they were so happy with the chickens they received. It was a very humbling sight.
