“Firm and Fearless” Managing Director Departs South African Poultry Institute
This story is one in a series from Frances Chisholm highlighting stories of lives impacted by World Poultry Foundation programs and workshops both in the U.S. and abroad. We encourage you to learn more about Ms. Chisholm and our poultry projects in South Africa.
On March 20, 2020, Board members, staff, and friends of South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Poultry Institute honored departing Managing Director Janet Lee and celebrated her leadership of the Institute.
Board member Tessa de Carle recounted Janet’s earliest days as member of the KZNPI Council in the early 2000s, her tenure as General Manager, and her leadership as Managing Director since 2013:
Describing Janet as “firm and fearless and in tune with the vibe in the industry,” Tessa said, “Janet kept KZNPI on local government’s radar [and] raised our profile” speaking frequently at stakeholder meetings. She was “key in developing the KwaZulu-Natal Poultry Institute’s relationship with the World Poultry Foundation which has led to funded training on a substantial scale [and] assisted us enormously.”
In a letter to Janet Lee, read to the gathering, World Poultry Foundation Managing Director Richard Fritz wrote, “The KZNPI is a jewel. Its commitment to provide greater opportunity for farmers, and better, safer, products for consumers has been outstanding under your leadership.” He also thanked Janet on a personal level “for your friendship, introducing the World Poultry Foundation to the South African market, and answering all my questions regarding South Africa…. Your leadership and friendship will be missed.”
The World Poultry Foundation and Janet’s many friends and colleagues in South Africa wish her well in the next exciting chapter in her life.
Go well, Janet!
