Training programs focusing on health, nutrition, and poultry management for rural poultry producers.
In cooperation with the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF), the Ghana Ministry of Food and Agriculture and through partnership with the University of Georgia, the focus of this project was on continued train-the-trainer programs focusing on health, nutrition, and poultry management for rural poultry producers. Each local poultry association nominated two producers who took part in week-long training sessions. These producers then used the training, as well as presentations and materials, to take back to their respective local poultry association to perform the training.
As part of this initiative, the World Poultry Foundation also sponsored a week of intensive training at the University of Georgia for the Deputy Director of Veterinary Services. The University also returned to Ghana to assess how those trained were effectively transferring their knowledge to producers in their region. The university also constructed a comprehensive production workbook and self-evaluation tool for those trained so they may more effectively inform their fellow poultry farmers.
