Bridging WPF’s two flagship initiatives in South Africa

Bridging WPF’s two flagship initiatives in South Africa

This story is the first in a series from Frances Chisholm highlighting stories of lives impacted by World Poultry Foundation programs and workshops both in the U.S. and abroad. We encourage you to learn more about Ms. Chisholm and our poultry projects in South Africa.

Lindelihle Nxumalo began his poultry career in 2013 as a Farm Assistant at the KwaZulu-Natal Poultry Institute (KZNPI), one of the World Poultry Foundation’s two South African partners.  Over the years he rose to become Facilitator for KZNPI practical training sessions.   Lindelihle proved to be an ideal candidate for a poultry internship in the U.S. under WPF’s other South African partner, the Future Farmers Foundation, and a valuable bridge between the two programs.

He joined fellow Future Farmer Bongani Cele as an intern at a large breeder layer farm of Rose Acre Farms in Seymour, Indiana, in summer 2018.

With his extrovert personality, joie de vivre and boundless curiosity, Lindelihle is soaking up the commercial poultry experience at a top-class operation, while he also explores American culture, one double-decker hamburger – and many other everyday pleasures – at a time!

Lindelihle looks forward to returning to KZNPI after his year in Indiana.  He’ll re-join the training team with a new bundle of poultry skills to offer!
